Viewing: Scrooge: A Christmas Carol

Updated: Feb 10, 2023

After. growing quite a cult following online, I felt the need to see this film for myself. The latest edition of the never ending collection of Charles Dicken's Christmas Carol films, Scrooge is the latest musical adaption created for the streaming service Netflix.

Directed by Steven Donnelly, a lesser known director, its quite adamant he has a certain style looking back at some of his previous work, such as Monster High and even the Kinect game.

As the story goes, nothing really pops out, its the same story we all know after all with only a couple of additions such as Scrooge having a dog and some extra characters. The one big difference, as mentioned, is that this is a musical rendition which is possibly the highlight of the film.

Luke Evans played the voice Scrooge, bringing his amazing singing voice with him, with songs like 'Tell me' and 'Later never comes' he really brings a certain level of emotion to the character.

Speaking of characters, the designs of the ghosts were also a honorable mention, the transitions of scenes using the ghosts powers including the entrance of Jacob Marley set the scene for this being a bright and colourful film and I'd suggest watching it just for this reason.

But as Christmas Carol films go, its nothing special, but its charming and fun that you can enjoy watching on Christmas with the family.
