When this movie first started, I admit, it didn't interest me, it more or less confused me, however, as the film went on I seemed to grow more and more interested in its outcome, more and more trying to figure out the mystery of what the people in the film are trying to solve. Who or what is Rosebud?
The story of Citizen Kane is as it is titled, a man called Charles Kane and his life. It starts with his death and his last words: 'Rosebud.' It seems Kane lived a political and risky life, with access to wealth and fame, both good and bad and we explore his life through cutscenes and flashbacks of people he knew telling his story to an interviewer, hoping that Kane's last words maybe meant something, told a great secret about him.
I found the story a lot more compelling the longer it went and cleverly composed in regards to the camera and transitioning between scenes, how it lingered on the faces of the actors. The use of lighting was useful too in such scenes where Kane was in deep thought, or added to some suspence.
It felt like such a bittersweet, poetic film with shots and angles that help you move and feel with the characters. An interesting and surprisingly in-depth film.
