Exhibition: Charlotte Johannesson

A well trained weaver of the 1960s, Johannesson is an artist that combines the use of digital coding and fabric weaving artistry to create pixelised artwork across various mediums.

I wasn't sure what to expect walking into the exhibition, though even before I walked into the room you could see through the glass windows the amazing computer-graphic looking tapestries hanging before you. (First picture above)

Walking around the exhibition, I felt a sense of nostalgia of those early days of being on the computer, those horrible squeaking noises they made when they broke down, remembering the flickers of colour and the boxes and graphics not quite developed. With viewing the artwork, it gave me a sense of beauty in the digital, the translation to that of a physical piece of artwork and wondering if the purpose of these pieces was to question: Is the digital era killing traditional artwork or enhancing it?

It was the thought as I walked through the space, noting the combinations of screens alongside that of paper and fabrics. Although not entirely to my tastes it did make you question and wonder the development of art in the modern era.
