Exhibition: Rosalind Hooks Nashashibi

London based Artist Rosalind Nashashibi is first and foremost a film maker who has recently start to go back to traditional painting, creating an exhibition of artworks titled 'Hooks.'

The colours and blending used in her paintings are reminiscent of impressionism and perhaps with a sprinkle of surrealism thrown in. There is something about some of these paintings that give me a great sense of unease and unrest, perhaps mostly by example of the painting titled 'Blue Shutters' (top right)

Whilst being slightly uneasy to look at, in some particular pieces there seems to be a sense of magic surrealism about them. The way the colours blend and focus your eye on certain forms in the image, I feel like I'm looking at two things at once.

Rosalind commented on some of her works as follows: 'Whenever you start to make a painting or decide shots in a film, there are lots of other paintings and films running through your head.'

I believe the concept of her painting is that of reflecting and visualising how certain scenes would go in a film, reflecting existing movies and paintings prior to the thought, an interesting and visually impressive way to express these beliefs.
