Viewing: Puss in Boots: The Last wish

Thanks to the release of Song's animated movie 'Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse' we have been graced with more and more stylised animated movies, the latest in the lineup, is Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

Another addition to Dreamworks's Shrek Universe, Puss in Boots had his first spin off movie in 2011, an adequate film but not great in my own opinion. When I heard they were making another, I was not entirely thrilled, however, the release of the trailer brought with it quite the following and interest, the change in animation styles and the overall theme of the film had people hooked, including myself, before its release.

Watching the movie, I can only praise the choice in animation, the colours, the movement, the style. Even the story and the theme of inescapable death was such a strong choice, it was simple enough for children to follow but had enough hidden adult humour and themes within the film that people of all ages could enjoy it.

There should also be the mentioning on how successfully Dreamworks managed to place three different kinds of villain in this film without causing too much of a clash. The irredeemable bad guy, the redeemable and the 'bad guy' that isn't necessarily bad, but helps guide the hero on his journey.

All in all, an A+ film and Puss in Boots: The Last wish will now be my go-to film on a relaxed afternoon.
