Period Elements: 1960s timeline


  • The 1960s was a big decade for change, it was the main frontier for the civil rights movement, for race, sexuality and freedom

  • The first decade that men were free from conscription (automatically enrolled into the army)

  • On the surface, there was a lot of war, movement, protests and parliamentary acts put in place in the 60s, however, it was also a time for expression and thinking of the future

  • Young people started wearing clothes more free, it was the first time skirts for women were so short

  • Domestically, virtually all houses now had electricity and most houses now had a refrigerator and a cooker
