As an introduction to the workshop space, we put together a box using the tools and equipment available to us, really giving me a sense of what we are able to do for future projects.
Tools used:
- Bandsaw, used to shape the shield of the lid
- Bobbin Sander, used to sand & shape the inner curves of the shield
- Disc sander, used to sand and shape the outer part of the shield
- Belt Sander, to smooth down surfaces around the box in order to decorate later
- Hot glue gun, for sticking the square beneath the shield to create a lid
- PVA, gluing the sides and bottom into place
- Pin Gun, used to nail the sides and bottom in place
Safety:
- Long hair, loose objects around neck are to be secured or removed
- Goggles to be worn at all times
- Aprons to be worn
- Steel capped shoes to be worn at all times within the workshop
- Hold wood pieces correctly when using sanding machines, or the wood may be throw by the force of the machine
- Extractor fans must be turned on before using the machines
- A supervisor must be present in order to use the machines
- Hands must be kept away from the pin guns' release, saws, sanders etc
- A safe distance must be between you and others whilst using the machine
- Items must be cleaned up from around a machine before use
- Make sure all machines are turned off and have stopped running before walking away
